LAST-MINUTE, EASY AND BUDGET-FRIENDLY IDEAS TO MAKE MOTHER’S DAY SPECIAL

I totally forgot about Mother’s day! But I’m so glad that I didn’t miss it. I was only reminded of the occasion while I was surfing the net last night. Hence this last-minute article, to coincide with my last-minute Mother’s day celebration ideas.

In prior years, whenever my mom was staying with me, my go-to way to celebrate Mother’s day is to spend the day out and treat her to dinner in a restaurant with the family. If we don’t feel like going out, there’s a seafood restaurant we order from, and have her favorites delivered.

Since I started my journey in simple living, I found alternative ways to celebrate special occasions without it turning into an expensive affair.

Here’s a list of last-minute ideas you can do to make the mothers in your life feel special without breaking the bank.

SIMPLE WAYS TO CELEBRATE MOTHER’S DAY

#1. Cook a special dinner for her that include her favorites.

Anything you give effort to, mothers’ appreciate. So cooking her favorite dishes will definitely make her happy.

Make it an event. Dress-up. Bring out the good dishes and table linens. Have your pictures taken and share it. Let her know it’s a special occasion

#2. Make her breakfast in bed and give her a handmade card and a flower.

Nothing says “you’re special” better than being served in bed and receiving flowers. Every woman enjoys this. Your mom definitely will.

When serving someone special breakfast in bed, presentation is key. Use good dishes and bring out table napkins.

Giving flowers doesn’t need to come in the form of expensive bouquets. A single rose or daisy in a vase will do.

Receiving handmade cards are always more special than store bought ones because of the effort spent into making them. So go get creative and make one for your mom.

#3. Home movie night.

Make some popcorn, buy her favorite chips and drinks, then stream her favorite movie.

Junk food, movies and comfy couch in your jammies is a no-brainer, feel good bonding activity.

#4. Gift her homemade | handmade items.

There are a lot of easy last-minute DIY gifts you can do especially if you are into crafting.

Do you crochet? Make mug coasters. It takes less than an hour to make the classic designs.

Do you sew? Have a sewing machine? Make a small zippered pouch and embroider with “Mom”.

Are you into preserving food? Make fruit preserves or spread.

Love Baking? Bake her a cake or make her favorite cookies.

The list of easy to make homemade and handmade gifts are endless. The limit is your time and imagination.

Me for instance. Tomorrow, I plan on grabbing a couple of lemons and make a batch of lemon marmalade. I’ll package it really well (glass jar, box, twine, and handmade gift card) and gift it to my mother-in-law.

It will take less than 2 hours for me to make this ( prep, cooking and packaging). And will cost me nothing, since I already have all the ingredients and packaging materials on hand.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Its never the amount that matters. Its always the effort and thoughtfulness that you give that will make any celebration special.

So go and make mothers in your life this Sunday feel special. They deserve it.
