HOMEMAKER’S DRESS CODE: WHY YOU SHOULD LOOK AMAZING EVERYDAY
If you’re working for a company, there is usually a dress code to follow. However, if you’re a full time homemaker, or if you work from home, more often than not, the effort of getting dressed for the day doesn’t seem necessary.
Do you really need to get out of your sleep clothes if you’re not leaving the house anyway? The answer is a resounding yes!
Being a stay-at-home homemaker is not a license to look frumpy. Preparing for your day and establishing a dress code that will fit your lifestyle is a lot more important than you might think.
A lot of homemakers don’t bother to dress for the day. Having no time because of a busy schedule is a common reason. Another one is, as you are not having the house anyway, no one will care what you look like.
When I started this journey, I used to think and dress the same way. Why bother primping when I’ll just be cooking and doing household chores? No one will see me, so why bother?
Sound familiar?
In the long run, I found that preparing and getting dressed for the day had a lot of benefits. So nowadays, making myself presentable to face the world has become part of my morning routine. And here’s why should too.
REASONS TO GET DRESSED EVERYDAY
IT SETS THE TONE FOR THE START OF THE DAY
It will help perk you up, and avoid that lazy morning mindset.
By making it a habit, it will help you transition from a sleepy state to a state of wakefulness. The same thing goes when you change your clothes from your day wear to your sleepwear at night.
TO PREPARE FOR ANY SUPRISE THE DAY BRINGS
Everday is a new day, and sometimes it brings surprises. A friend drops by for a surprise visit. You’re cooking and you ran out of eggs and need to go the the grocery.
If you’re still wearing your sleepwear, chances are instead of answering the door to welcome your visitor, you run inside and scramble to make yourself look presentable ( I speak from experience 😄). Same goes for the emergency grocery run.
That was me too before. Nowadays, no more scrambling to hide or change.
Suprise visitor comes knocking? I open the door and smile.
Need to step out of the house for an errand? I slip on my sneakers, grab my phone and wallet, and I’m good to go.
It pays to be prepared in the morning.
TO FEEL GOOD
Smart casual comfortable clothes? Check.
Hair combed through/ styled? Check.
No makeup, makeup applied? (Translation: natural looking make-up) Check.
Doesnt it feel nice to look nice?
I look good, therefore I feel good. Need I say more?
WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE OF A HOMEMAKER?
There are things we need to consider when we do prepare for the day:
STYLE
There is no wrong or right answer for this. Choose the style you are most comfortable with.
Me, I like simple and classic. My wardrobe consists of solid, muted colors. I went through the phases, of hiphop, rock metal and feminine dresses in my younger years. But that’s not me anymore.
Dress as you. Style need not change just because you are working at home full time. (Yes homemaking is work).
COMFORT
This will highly depend on what you do daily.
Me for instance. I work from home full time. That means scheduled housework and and preparing meals. In between homemaking, I make crafts and other homemade products for sale. I also spend a part of my day writing articles, maintaining my site, creating pins and what nots.
When I prepare for the day, I keep that in mind. I live in a tropical country. Most of the time, that translates to sleeveless shirts or tank top, and cut-off shorts, skirts or jeans.
If I feel like wearing a dress (I rarely do so though) I have a couple of maxi dresses that I choose from.
Its not my Sunday best, nor corporate attire nor business casual. It’s simple, casual, presentable and comfortable.
Excluding my trusty sneakers or strappy sandals, I dress up the way I would when I’m about to meet my friends for a lunch or coffee date. Clothes I wouldn’t mind getting a photo of wearing.
COSMETICS
Not necessary if you don’t really wear make-up. For me though, I like a bit of cosmetics. It makes me feel more put together.
Eyebrow make-up, eyeliner, light blush and lip gloss. Less than 2 minutes and I’m done. You can wear as heavy or as light make-up as you want, or none at all.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Your dress code is totally up to you. It’s all about what you like. Your style, aesthetics, and comfort.
The goal is to wear presentable clothes that won’t hinder your day activities, and at the same time make you feel good.
Do not contribute to homemaker outfits being seen as frumpy, baggy and ratty clothing. Go and look fabulous. You deserve it.
