FIND THE POCKETS OF HAPPINESS IN YOUR LIFE

Many times we are so focused on life’s daily grind, seeking stability and ultimately happiness, that we neglect to see what is right in front of us – little pockets of happiness.

“The secret of happiness you see, is not found in seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy less.”

-Socrates-

This is one of my favorite inspirational quote on Simple Living. It tells us to value and appreciate what which we already have. We just have to see and recognize them for what they are.

HOW TO FIND YOUR POCKETS OF HAPPINESS

What are pockets happiness? These are the little things that happens around you, that makes you happy.

Finding joy in everday life is easier than you think. They are usually short and fleeting, so we tend to not notice them. We should though. They give you happiness without much effort on your part. They matter.

Recognizing these pockets of happiness is easy. You only need to ask yourself 2 questions:

WHAT AM I GRATEFUL FOR?

Oftentimes, we are so busy rushing through life that we don’t see the small miracles happening around us.

Instead of celebrating our mini accomplishements, we just mark it done in our to do list and move on to the next.

It’s 7:20AM and very early for me as my day usually starts 10am. But as I am writing this article, I already have a number of things I am grateful for:

  • I woke up. Though I’m not well-rested because of a long night, I’m alive, breathing and healthy.
  • I finished all the draft pages and posts for my new blog last night. I’m far from done, the website still lacks a lot that I need to tinker on, but…. Yey!
  • My mother-in-law gave us pan-de-sal (small breakfast bread). Hubby, her and my father-in-law has an early appointment this morning. She knocked on our door very early to give us bread for breakfast. Acts of kindness should be appreciated. And other than thanking her, I will show my appreciation by enjoying it with peanut butter and a cup of coffee as soon as I finish writing.
  • Coming up with an idea for a post this early in the morning. This post came about, because it’s too early for me, and I’m feeling cranky. So instead of wallowing in the negative, I stopped and took a moment to think of things I should be grateful for.

WHY DID I SMILE?

Througout the day, a lot little things may make you smile. They are fleeting most oft he times, do you notice them?

The mere fact that you smiled means something made you happy. Take a moment to think of why, and appreciate it.

I already smiled twice today, and it’s not even 8am:

  • My cat meowing to my husband seeking attention and cuddles. He picked her up, and they had a minute of bonding moment. It was cute.
  • My surly, pouty husband as he kissed me goodbye before leaving for their appointment. He’s a big guy trying to be cute. It was funny.

There are a lot of things that makes you happy, and can make you happy. You just have to notice them and realize it for what they are. Your little pockets of happiness.

If you start appreciating the little things, you’ll soon realize that you are happier than you thought you are.

MAKE IT A HABIT

You haven’t recognized these source of joy before, so chances are you won’t recognize them in the future unless you make it a habit.

Start small. Do it twice a day at the the onset. Give yourself a moment to ask these questions once in the morning and before you go to bed.

Include it in your Morning Routine and nightly ritual. Increase frequency by including it in your break/ rest time, until such time as you start recognizing them in the moment as it happens.

Start recognizing your pockets of happiness now. You’ll be amazed at how much positivity these simple things will give your life.
